The Central Savannah River RC&D Council Area was formed in 1990 and encompasses thirteen counties in east central Georgia along the Savannah River. The Council currently serves thirteen counties as a vehicle for USDA to identify problems and provide solutions to human, economic and resource concerns. The 27-member council is made up of a representative from the county commission and soil and water conservation district in each county, and the director of the CSRA Regional Development Center.
The Council works with local, state, and federal agencies to assist local people in planning and carrying out activities that conserve natural resources, support economic development, enhance the environment, and improve the standard of living for all citizens. Eleven RC&D Councils have been organized in Georgia since I 964, and have created a forum so that strategies can be developed to address local problems.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) administers the program for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. NRCS provides a coordinator, and gives other support to each RC&D area.
